Lessons Learned No Other Way

Getting through the tough seasons in your marriage by treasuring the lessons learned togetherThe last couple of months, Ben and I have felt like we’re moving through life and everything is just happening to us.  Do you know what I mean?  It feels like there’s way too much going on and too little that we’re in control of.  Knowing us, our normal life is fairly structured, planned, and has down time when we need it.  It’s predictable and we like it.  But to be honest, 2014 has been tough.  Not planned, not predictable, and lots to worry about.

But just over the last couple of weeks, we’ve had some really special realizations to what we are learning.  Things still aren’t structured, and it feels like we’re still in the middle of some crazy things.  But clarity is coming and some lessons have been made clear to us.

And sometimes, there are lessons learned no other way.

If you and your spouse are in a state of confusion or worry, just know that what you will learn might only be taught this way.  It doesn’t make it easy, and it doesn’t go away, but knowing that on the other side there is wisdom and experience to be gained may be just the encouragement you need.  Keep going.  Keep loving each other.  And keep perspective even when it’s tough.

Ben and I keep being reminded of a passage from the Bible – Matthew 6.  Particularly verse 19 through the end.  We’ve learned what it means to trust God for provision and fulfillment in brand new ways this season.  Ways we would have never learned if it hadn’t have been for the last couple of months.  It’s been difficult, but right now we’re treasuring the lessons we’re learning.

And sometimes, there are lessons learned no other way.
